Celebrate Presidents’ Day All Weekend Long

Celebrate Presidents’ Day All Weekend Long

February 12, 2016 / editor

For many of us, we are gearing up for a long weekend as our nation looks to observe President’s Day on Monday.  President’s Day is a way for our country to remember past presidents and for patriotic celebration.  Luckily for us at The Parker, we are in a perfect location to take part in the Presidents’ Day festivities this weekend!

Alexandria

Jump on the Yellow Line to Old Town Alexandria where you’ll be immersed in our city’s rich history.  As it was once the place George Washington called home, Old Town Alexandria celebrates Presidents’ Day in a big way with the country’s largest Presidents’ Day parade.  On Monday, enjoy the parade from 1-3 and walk the streets George Washington once walked.

Mount Vernon

Take a short drive down to George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate.  This year marks Washington’s 284th birthday and Mount Vernon is celebrating!  All weekend long, Mount Vernon will be holding special events to honor our first president.  From 3-4 on Saturday and Sunday, Mount Vernon will be giving out free birthday cake.  Also, on Monday, there are many events schedule and best of all admission is free!

Monuments and Memorials

Perhaps you are new to the area or you just haven’t found the time to check out the several presidential monuments and memorials in the DMV.  Brave the cold weather and visit the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, FDR Memorial or the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial.

Museums

Beat the deep freeze this weekend by heading indoors to the National Portrait Gallery.  The National Portrait Gallery will be opening its doors for their Presidential Family Fun Day.  Celebrate American presidents with games, music and hands-on activities on Saturday from 11:30-3.  Or you can head to the Library of Congress for its special open house of the Main Reading Room from 10-3 on Monday.  In the mood for something more fun?  Get your picture taken with with all 44 Presidents in the Presidents Gallery at Madame Tussauds!
