3 Heart-Pounding Fall Activities Around Alexandria

3 Heart-Pounding Fall Activities Around Alexandria

October 8, 2015 / editor

Tis the season for scary movies and haunted houses…

…but did you know all those jumpy feelings can actually be beneficial for your health? We all know that constant adrenaline brought on by stress isn’t exactly a good thing. But once in awhile, those boosts of short heart-pounding adrenaline can actually boost your immune system, staving off seasonal illnesses. Because sometimes, the apple-a-day trick isn’t quite enough.

So let’s get to it! Here are our top 3 ways to get your shot of adrenaline in Alexandria this fall.

1. Go on a Bike Ride

Capital Bikeshare (2509 Huntington Avenue) is just a 2-minute walk, but if you can’t make it there, you can probably snag The Parker’s bike for a ride around town.

Biking is not only a fantastic workout (you bet you’ll feel your heart pounding after a 30-minute ride!), but it helps keep your heart in good condition for those haunted houses and scary movies that pop up around Halloween. In fact, according to a study by the British Medical Association, cycling just 20 miles a week may cut your risk of developing coronary heart disease in half.

Try cycling through the Mount Vernon Trail, past national monuments and beautiful fall foliage, or use the Alexandria Bike Map to create your own adventure.

2. Play Laser Tag at Shadowland Laser Adventures

Nothing like a good game of laser tag with friends and family to get your heart pumping! Shadowland Laser Adventures is just an 8-minute drive from The Parker. Simply fill out a waiver, choose your code name (The Terminator is perfectly acceptable), and get ready to enter a laser tag arena like you’ve never seen before. Yes, you might be worse than your nephew at laser tag. It’s just a risk you’re going to have to take, because it’s nearly impossible not to have a great time here–no matter what age you are.

3. Attend the Ghost & Graveyard Special Halloween Tour

This isn’t your average tour (although is anything in Alexandria average?). For one special night, Alexandria Colonial Tours will take you on a Halloween tour that ends in a mysterious room at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum. Buy your tickets in advance, and enjoy a spooky AND educational night out on the town. And if that’s not going on, check out their regular Ghost & Graveyard tour!

Heart pounding excitement is great while you’re out and about in Alexandria, but at the end of the day, there’s nothing better than relaxing in your safe, warm bed. Interested in moving into your dream apartment in Alexandria, VA? Get in touch with us today at The Parker.
